Career Coach Me was established by Career Coach Cathy Balfe, and provides career coaching services to individuals online.

Cathy Balfe is an experienced and qualified careers advisor who has experience of helping hundreds of individuals with their career development. She is a Registered Career Development Professional with the Career Development Institute.

She holds a Postgraduate Diploma from the University of Warwick in career guidance, in addition to being an accredited CAPP Strengths Profile Coach.

Cathy has first hand experience of managing career transitions, having made a number of significant career changes herself. After dabbling in various areas of finance (stock trading, investment banking, corporate finance and accountancy), she transitioned into academia, working in research at UCD before successfully pursuing a PhD in Economics at University College London. After her first child she switched careers again, retraining as a careers advisor, working with students at the University of London for a number of years. While on maternity leave with her second child, Cathy relocated to Limerick where she launched Career Coach Me in 2019.

Since 2019, Cathy has worked with almost 400 individual clients (and counting!) as well as several universities (providing freelance career support to students) and organisations (delivering a mix of individual career coaching and group career development workshops).

Drawing on her skills and experience, and with an understanding of the emotions that can accompany a career shift, Cathy helps clients navigate career transitions. She has successfully helped hundreds of clients identify suitable job opportunities, improve their CVs and succeed at interview.

Cathy follows a client centered coaching approach. She believes with the right support and knowledge, the client is best equipped to make decisions about their future career. In client centered career coaching, the coach and client work in partnership to help the client make decisions and take action to identify and achieve their career goals.

She finds great satisfaction from helping individuals realise their potential and find roles that give them enjoyment and satisfaction.

While comfortable supporting clients through the emotions that often go hand in hand with career decisions and change, we are not qualified counsellors or psychotherapists. Sometimes clients might benefit from counselling sessions with a qualified therapist to help provide additional emotional support.

I really enjoyed working with Cathy and the advice she gave to me during the session. Cathy helped me get direction in the session with career choices and how I could narrow down different career options and what my priorities were. The career work book was good in terms of continuing in decision making for a career path. In the session Cathy was easy to talk to and gave me ideas while also listening to different suggestions I had to offer. The questionnaire gave us a good starting point where my skills may lie and we went from there. I would advice anyone who's looking for guidance for their career path to do it because it gives direction.

I had a zoom meeting with Cathy in order to help with a future career change. I went into the meeting with no plan or real idea on what I wanted to do or where to begin. When I decided I wanted to work with a careers coach I actually found it quite hard to find someone who offered a practical service. A lot of career coaches that I came across were all about working with personal traits like building confidence. But as someone coming from such a mixed background of work, I was looking for a coach who was actually going to help me to define and realise what sort of jobs I should be looking for because I had no idea. I have run my own business for the last three years but have found myself bored and looking for a total change but not quite being able to put my finger on what I wanted to do exactly. Only having vague ideas of indefinite job titles. I felt like when I was a kid and I said that I wanted to be a fixer, you know, who fixes things.I was looking extensively for a career counsellor and came across Cathy and Career Coach Me. I was extremely busy with work so the fact that I didn't have to go anywhere or take any time off was a big plus. After picking the option to have an hour consultation the process of booking it was effortless and you get email prompts of how to access the online video appointment. The program Cathy uses for the video call is really good, no annoying set up or anything. Just click the link and there you go.We talked about various things and I gave her my vague ideas of what I wanted to do and she always had the perfect question to get closer to the end decision.I was also applying to go to college as a mature student and she gave me a few tips for my CV. As the only CV I had was an electrical CV it was a completely different structure to what I needed for a college application. I wrote one and then booked another appointment with Cathy and The suggestions and fine tuning that she gave me was fantastic. The CV was completely different to what I would have written if left to my own devices.Cathy also said that I could send her on anything that came up in the application form that I was not sure of. I felt this was above and beyond what I would have expected from a service like this. But it was no bother to her at all. And when I emailed her to ask if she left a certain section of what I had written was too long(probably like this review) she got back to me straight away with more advice. It was in fact too long(a bit like this review).I would highly recommend booking an appointment with Cathy. It's all super simple and she is really easygoing and friendly whilst getting down to business at the same time. She has helped me no end and the return on investment is definitely worth it.
