1. Job vacancy aggregator websites – websites that aggregate vacancies from multiple sources. Irish examples include irishjobs.ie, indeed.ie, jobs.ie
2. LinkedIn job search
3. Niche job vacancy boards – e.g. universityvacancies.com for university jobs, publicjobs.ie for public sector jobs
4. Company’s own job vacancies boards – some companies allow you to sign up for job vacancy alerts. If this is not an option you may want to check back regularly for companies you are targeting
5. Recruitment consultancies – they can have opportunities that are not advertised elsewhere, and can bring opportunities to your attention you may not have been otherwise aware of. Bear in mind recruitment consultancies are working on behalf of the company and candidates sometimes find themselves being put forward for opportunities that may not match what they are looking for – so make sure to keep your eyes on the target here!
6. For graduates – check gradireland.com and also see if your institution has a jobs board – most jobs advertised here will be targeting recent graduates without bags of work experience
7. Jobs fairs – these are not only for graduates, and have gone online during Covid. E.g. check out jobsexpo.ie
8. Network / contacts – reach out to your current contacts working in organisations / industries you are targeting – they may know of upcoming opportunities, provide insight and advice to help you in your job search. You can use LinkedIn to grow your network of contacts – make sure you are making contact in an appropriate way!
9. Professional bodies – if you are entering a profession with a professional body they often have a jobs listing page on their website
10. Speculative applications – this is an application for an unadvertised job. Make sure you are writing a very strong cover letter and CV using this approach!
