I have always prided myself on my motivation – with life achievements I am proud of that would have been impossible without high levels of motivation as follows:
- Starting my own career advisory business after relocating to Limerick in 2019 (learning skills such as website design and hosting, google analytics, marketing and of course, amazing post writing skills…right?)
- Undertaking a PhD in Economics in London, successfully defending my viva with a 3 month old baby in tow in 2015
- Swim training 6+ times a week throughout secondary school including 4 * 4.40am starts – let’s be fair though, my parents were the real heroes in this case.
But honestly, right now I feel so unmotivated. Maybe I’ve used up all my motivation in life – maybe I burned through it in my teens and twenties. But I largely blame the pandemic. Pre-pandemic I’d be sitting at my desk straight after school drop offs, taking a quick lunch and working through until I had to collect my kids.
Now I’m still loving and looking forward to my client calls, but anything growth / future planning related I’m really dragging my heels on.
People have different reactions to lockdown and restrictions, but I’m sure I’m not alone in feeling this slump. I’ve seen it reflected in some clients I’ve been working with recently.
On the positive side, I do feel like I’m turning a corner. I credit the lifting of restrictions, the longer stretch in the days and the comparatively positive news around infection rates and hospitalisations. Here I am now, writing a LinkedIn post and letting some more of the world know about me and my business. I’m hope if you are experiencing this post pandemic slump, you find your corner soon too.
